I think if we examine our lives properly we would conclude that everyone has tried to 'guilt' us into something or other. Our parents, family, friends, girlfriends, wives, children, work ...etc. And usually what doe this mean? It means that they are trying to persuade us into something we really don't want to do. If they have good intentions it is tough love, but if they are bad intentions they are trying to take something of value away. I would say that the Church falls in the line of tough love. Usually, when we accuse the church of being an associate based on guilt we are just providing an excuse not to go and continue going against our consciences. When our consciences bother us we tell ourselves its just that formation that I received from church getting in the way, I am doing nothing wrong. What the church is really teaching us is true love, the crucifix is a symbol of that love. How can we look at a crucifix and say, "oh that's just there to make me feel guilty"? The crucifixion is a real historical act of a God who came to teach us what it means to love unto death. Lets not allow anything to get in the way of love. First of all ourselves.

I always perk up whenever I hear about Great Big Sea, because they're from where I'm from (St. John's) and it's always cool and a little surreal to see some local boys out there touring. In fact, I think a few of the band attended the university where I'm commenting from right now!
