here to recruit you

I saw the film Milk today and was surprised at the comfort I felt in the retelling of Harvey Milk’s life. It’s not about someone being gay — it is simply asking people to be true to themselves and be allowed acceptance, freedom, and the right to express their own individuality. As such, grand-scale politics and judgment have little to do with the true essence of the film. Certainly, the film has an agenda, but it is careful and more underplayed than it might be, and in a very Three Bears’ way, just right.
The cast is balanced; Sean Penn’s ability to be usurped by a character, evident, and James Franco’s talent shockingly wonderful. The time and place is captured in a precise weaving of actual footage, vintage new reports, and acting. Be prepared not to judge and to walk away feeling empowered and awed. In a time when the country is embracing change, it will do the same to this amazing film.
